What is the difference between stainless steel and nonstick cookware? Did you know? Surely not, that’s why I decided to write this article. Now anyone can tell the difference between the two just by looking at them, but if you are not a professional chef, you may not know what difference this would make when cooking with them. Let’s take a closer look …

Non-stick cookware is known for not allowing food to stick to cookware and also for easy cleaning. Some also say that cooking with nonstick is a healthier option since you don’t need to use as much oil or butter. Nonstick cookware is available for purchase from tons of retailers, with a variety of grades and price ranges. A caveat from my own experience, I wouldn’t dare buy the bottom of the price chain, which didn’t work out very well for me. The downside I have found to the nonstick is the durability of the pan itself. I cook a lot with my pans and have noticed that the nonstick wears off easily, some of their nonstick finish has come off (again, lower priced items), and I have still had to soak them before I could fully clean them. .

For the most part, stainless steel has long been a favorite of most professional chefs. I can’t think of a time when I saw a cooking show where a stainless steel pot or pan was not visible. Stainless steel cookware is perfect for browning food, cooking food evenly and, in my opinion, in less time than non-stick. Stainless steel is very durable, long enough to put in an oven (we’re not talking about pots and pans here, let’s think of pans). Stainless steel cookware is found to be a bit higher on the price scale than its nonstick counterpart, but once again, based on personal experience, it is well worth the extra money.

Still can’t decide? Maybe you can try each of them. Buy one of each and spend time cooking with them. See how they handle the food you prepare and how they flavor your food. If you go this route, be sure to mix up different foods as you taste it so you can see how they stack up in different situations. I still have both in my kitchen (I had stainless steel before I met my husband, and he brought nonstick to our marriage).
