The ABT Sportsline RS5-R with Aero carbon fiber and forged wheels

The Audi RS 5 sports coupe is the pinnacle of the German automaker’s A5 model range. The standard A5 has been a huge hit since it was first introduced years ago due to its sleek and sexy shape incorporating curvy body styling with a modern design with LED lighting throughout. Due to the car’s success, Audi has introduced a number of performance variants, including the S5 and then the RS 5, the latter being the most powerful and performance-oriented of the entire lineup. After the second generation of the A5 model line was introduced, the German car tuning specialists ABT Sportsline created a new race car program that turns the sports car into a track day superstar. ABT Sportsline’s new RS5-R model features special aerodynamic carbon fiber bodywork, lightweight forged wheels, engine modifications and a race-oriented interior design.

The high-revving 4.2-liter FSI V-8 engine that powers the Audi RS 5 from the factory was the first aspect ABT Sportsline engineers addressed in the RS5-R. The engine received some minor tweaks that helped boost the stock 420 horsepower output. Engineers fitted a new ABT Power Tune along with a special stainless steel exhaust system that exits on each side of the car before the forged rear wheels instead of the traditional bumper mount. The result is a healthy 470 horsepower to help cut acceleration time from 0-100 km/h to 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 303 km/h.

With higher performance under the hood, ABT Sportsline went on to develop an aerodynamically optimized lightweight carbon fiber body kit that would help make the RS5-R more composed on the race track. The new kit includes a new front bumper with side guards and splitter to generate downforce, and a new vented hood to cool the engine. New side skirts and door panels help calm airflow along each side between the forged wheels and reduce weight over stock components. A large rear spoiler and additional bumper diffuser help dramatically increase downforce at the rear for better handling, braking and stability at high speeds.

ABT Sportsline then updated the chassis with new suspension and tire options. The factory suspension was updated with a new coilover setup that can be customized for a given track. The factory wheel and tire setup has been replaced with new lightweight aluminum forged wheels in a 9.5 x 19 mounting front and rear with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport tires for added grip.

Inside, ABT Sportsline installed a variety of race and safety modifications. The front seats were replaced with new bucket seats for better lateral bolstering and fitted with four-point racing harnesses for added safety. A fire extinguisher and integrated roll cage help protect the driver and passenger in the event of a crash.
