Title and author: Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing by Robert Kyosaki with Sharon Lechter, CPA

Contents synopsis:

This is another in a series of books that Kiyosaki and Lechter have written with the goal of teaching the newbie about wealth creation. It aims to teach the basics of the mindset required to be a successful investor and some of the fundamental disciplines and principles required.

You will not find anything new or revolutionary here. The authors teach the basics of attitude, education, awareness, and various investment methods. This book can be a good starting point for someone who wants to know the basics. Kiyosaki, who has been bankrupt, emphasizes the need to take risks to make money, but also teaches how to invest wisely and carefully. This book is not for a shy person who wants to minimize risk. It is about creating significant wealth with the risks that it entails.

Many of the ideas here are very solid, like having a solid investment plan and sticking to it and educating yourself before you take the plunge. Like all wealth advice books, it’s very promising and downplays what can go wrong. The author’s suggestions on automatic wealth should be taken with a dose of salt. While investments made wisely can pay off over time, there is always work and maintenance involved and the authors may not acknowledge all this credit.

No one should trust a single book for their investment education and this is certainly not the best of its kind. However, it is an excellent initial education on some of the necessary principles, as well as how to avoid some of the pitfalls.

One caveat: neither the author is a certified financial advisor, nor is there an independent verification of his level of investment skill or his own personal performance.

Readability / Writing quality:

This is well written. It is usually a bit redundant. It is well organized and for the most part clearly written.

Notes on the author:

Robert Kiyosaki is an author and investor. Sharon Lechter is a CPA and is the co-author of several books in this Rich Dad series with Kiyosaki. Together they combine the school of hard hitting wisdom Kiyosaki has learned with some more technical financial advice from Lechter as an accountant.
